"An Echo And An Amen”

"An Echo And An Amen"
I want to echo and amen the recent appeal made to the church from the Pastor Search Committee. Chairman Bob Cox asked that you intensify your prayer for the search process. There are many things you can’t do to assist in the search. You can’t read all the resumes. You can’t check out all the references. You can’t watch the sermon video tapes of possible candidates. You can’t make the trips to hear potential pastors preach and observe them in their own church. You can’t discern which among many good candidates needs more attention. You can’t narrow the field to a few. You can’t make a selection as to which pastor to recommend to the church. You can’t . . . well enough of the “can’t.”
At some point in time, you can cast your vote. You do remember don’t you that the Pastor Search Committee does not “call” a pastor? Their assignment is to “recommend” a pastor. The church votes to extend the call. Therefore, in the mean time, you have an assignment. Your job is to pray. Pray for the Pastor Search committee as they do all the things listed above (and more) that you can’t do. Pray for those who are asked to give references. Pray for the prospective pastoral candidates as they seek to discern and respond to questions. Pray for our church as we prepare for a weekend of observation, evaluation, and discernment (when ever that may be). Pray for the day when a vote will be taken. Pray for yourself. “Intensify your prayer for the search process.”
Well said, Chairman Bob!
I look forward to worshipping with you next Sunday.
Dr. Dan
