Faith Of Our Forefathers

Summary: We sometimes sing the 19th century hymn “Faith of our Fathers.” It is a tribute to living fathers - “Faith of our fathers living still.” I want to focus your attention on the Faith of our Forefathers, our Hebrew forefathers. Deut 6:4-9 is the heart of Hebrew faith, referred to as the “Shema”(hear) – taken from the first word in the passage, “Hear” It is the first passage taught to Jewish children and is quoted by adults every morning and evening. Every Synagogue service is opened with it. It is to the Jew what John 3:16 is to the Christian. It is a summary statement of the faith of our Hebrew forefathers.
