"Keep Praying for the Pastor Search Committee"
The worst kept secret in Comanche County is that we’ve had a pastoral candidate come, look, discuss, and go back home. So what? This may happen several times in the process. Sometimes the candidate senses that this is not God’s will. Sometimes, the committee senses it. Sometimes both sense it. Sometimes everything is right except the timing. But we move on.
Should you keep praying for the Pastor Search Committee? Absolutely! Why? I’m so glad you asked. Consider the possibility that the next pastor could stay fifteen to twenty years.
- If you are a senior adult, this means he may visit you in a hospital, conduct funeral services for your friends, possibly even conduct your funeral.
- If you are a median adult, he may comfort you at the death of your parents, counsel you in the raising of your teen-agers, advise you in the midst of a career change.
- If you are a young adult or a teen-ager, he may conduct your wedding, visit you when your first child is born, baptize your children.
So you see, this is not just finding someone who is available and can preach a decent sermon. There are a lot of those guys out there and we could get one of them on the field in a month. But the Pastor Search Committee is seeking so much more than this.
So, keep the faith and keep on praying. And I’ll keep looking forward to worshipping with you each Sunday.
