Letters To The Church - Philadelphia
Series: Revelation 3:7-13
Summary: Have you ever noticed inscriptions over open doors? •Main Building at U.T.: “Ye shall know the trough and the truth shall make you free.” From Jesus. •Notre Dame football locker room: “Play like a champion today.” •Over the door of a Health Center in South London, the words, “The health of the people is the highest law.” •Over the front door of the church in Penglai, China where Lottie Moon served, is the simple inscription, “Holy Church.” •Near the front door of the National Archives in D.C.: “What is past is prologue.” I spent a month in Milan, Italy teaching in the churches and consulting with the missionaries. We visited the beautiful Cathedral of Milan - five centuries in the construction; fourth largest church building in the world. There are three main doors. •Inscribed over the door to the left are the words: “All that which pleases is but for the moment.” •Over the door on the right are inscribed the words: “All that which troubles is but for the moment.” •Over the center door is the inscription:“That only is important which is eternal.” The church at Philadelphia is known as the church with an open door. Over that door might well be written: “That only is important which is eternal.”
