Letters To The Church - Ephesus

Summary: Have you even been in a cold church? I was in the church where Lottie Moon worshiped in Penglai, China. It was December in northern China and the temperature was below freezing. There was no heat in the building. It was a cold prayer meeting. When we finished, an American asked the Chinese Pastor, “How much would it cost to heat this building?” obviously thinking of raising the money himself from his wealthy American church. “Don’t want it heated” the Pastor replied. “None of the homes have heat. If the church had heat, people would come for the wrong reason.” Hummm! That’s a cold church story of another nature. The church in Revelation, located in Ephesus, was cold spiritually. I’ve been in a few of those too, where “many were cold, and few were frozen!” I was in one so cold, I felt like offering the invitation for them to ice skate down the aisle. Let’s look at this cold church in Revelation and the letter to it explaining why they were a cold church – they had left their first love.
